Where It All Began

It all began with a little girl who liked to pick out and match her own outfits. Next, I started drawing every day after school, using the whole box of crayons to make intricate designs and patterns. Markers were my best friend. As I got a little bit older, I started creating my own fonts… trying to see how many different ways I could draw the letter “C” or the letter “E.” Then I started recreating the fonts that bands would use on album covers, all by hand.

I kept drawing, and my love of hand lettering even led me to design the banners at prom. When it was time for college, I knew I had to go into graphic design because of my love of fonts and letters.

A complete line-up of art classes ranging from painting to drawing to design made college a match made in heaven. A 4.0 was even achieved, along with a belief that a career in the arts was possible. After visits to Paris, New York, and Boston, my passion, curiosity, and enthusiasm for all things visual was permanently fixed.

That fixation followed me into my professional life—first with a landscape architecture firm in Denver, then a mid-sized architectural firm in Philadelphia. Presentations, proposals, and logos became part of my everyday. Design programs were mastered.

Later, a move back to Colorado and ten years in marketing departments strengthened my design skills and expanded my range. Print was still around, but digital environments became the norm. Websites, social media, and marketing strategy became part of my expertise. During that time, I also worked in a jewelry store, where I learned how important storytelling, presentation, and marketing are when it comes to connecting people to beautiful products.

Now, I get to share all of that knowledge and design experience with you—crafting campaigns and creating graphics that help your business thrive. I’ve been lucky that what I loved as a kid transferred into a profession as an adult. I just use a computer instead of markers and crayons now. (I still love markers and crayons, by the way!)
